Art Every Day Month

There has been so little time for art these last few days, but here my boy is refining his skills in the art of pancake making. He asked if he could make lunch today, and this is what he chose to make.

They were yummy!

After our school day was done, DD8 and I headed down to the art room where I tried to re-create some images that have been swirling in my brain in response to a couple of MercyMe songs from their album, The Generous Mr. Lovewell. The first is from the song, "Move", which you can listen to here:

I'm not about to give up
Because I heard you say
There's gonna be brighter days
There's gonna be brighter days
I wont stop, Ill keep my head up
No, I'm not here to stay
There's gonna be brighter days
There's gonna be brighter days
I just might bend but wont break
As long as I can see your face

[Chorus]

When life wont play along
And right keeps going wrong
And I cant seem to find my way
I know where I am found
So I wont let it drag me down
Oh, I'll keep dancing anyway
I'm gonna move (move)
I'm gonna move (move)
I'm gonna move

Ive got to hold 'er steady
Keep my head in the cage
Everything is about to change
Everything is about to change
This hurt is getting heavy
But I'm not about to cave
Everything's about to change
There's gonna be brighter days
I just might bend but wont break
As long as I can see your face

[Chorus]

No matter what may come
Gotta move to a different drum
No matter what life brings
Gotta move gotta move to a different beat [x2]
I just might bend but wont break
As long as I can see your face

It's not quite what I envisioned because I couldn't get my tree to look like both a tree and a person . . . but, oh well!

Next I worked with a lyric from the song "This Life"

This is not my home

(this is not my space)
this is not my style
(this is not my place)
Can't get comfortable
(cant get settled in)
I simply don't belong
(can't get used to this)
But I'm here right now
(I can hear You say)
make the most of Me
(this won't go to waste)
If I'm out of my mind
(yeah it's all for Christ)
if I'm making sense
(then get it right)
every moment is a chance to
let Your light break through

this life (oh oh oh )
this life was meant to shine
this life (oh oh oh )
this life was meant to shine

I don't have to stall
(I don't have to wait)
don't have to bide my time
(till I make my escape)
cuz heaven's in my heart
(I won't settle for less)
I will lift Your name
(by the life I live)
every moment is a chance to
let Your light break through

this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine
this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine

it's in my heart
it's in my soul
I'll live everday
just to make You known
cuz this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to
meant to shine
hold your heads up high
this is our moment to rise
we were meant to shine
not just survive
hold your heads up high
this is our moment to rise
we were meant to shine
not just survive
hold your heads up high
this is our moment to rise
we were meant to shine

this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine
this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine
it's in my heart
it's in my soul
I'll live everday
just to make You known
cuz this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to
meant to shine
its in my heart
it's in my soul
I'll live everday
just to make You known
cuz this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to
meant to shine
oh oh oh
we were meant to shine yeah!

Pretty much all of this MercyMe album speaks to me in some way.

Are there any songs that really speak to your heart these days?

  1. I really liked how you found inspiration for your art through music. My favorite artists are Sara Groves, JJ Heller, and Chris Rice. The lyrics of their songs really speak to me. I'll have to try your technique for combining my favorite music with my painting.

  3. I love them both!! It's fabulous that you can take a piece of music that inspires a picture in your head and bring it to life. Very, very nice!!

My music taste when creating is all over the place. It ranges from ambient (Anugama), Native American to 80's and 90's.

  4. Thank you, Tracy. I confess I was disappointed in not being able to re-create what was in my head -- but I still had fun trying:)Thank you for stopping by!

  7. I haven't really created art inspired by music, but I've written some short stories. I like the combination of text and image in this artwork.

    Those pancakes look so yummy!!

  8. Thank you, Anne -- for some reason I feel the need to use words in my art -- I'm not sure why. I used to write stories and not create visual art; now it seems to be the opposite!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

  9. That first picture is absolutely incredible!!! I love the hidden eyes... I think you've captured it beautifully! I wish I had talent like yours, my home will only ever have photos (and right now has very little) to decorate the walls.

Feel free to come decorate for me! ;)
    Blessings!

  10. You're so sweet, Shannon! Thank you:)

Generally speaking, I don't like my art well enough to decorate the walls with it -- except maybe in the art room in the basement. Maybe one day . . .:)

  11. Hey :) You're art every day of the month has got me thinking about being creative... and wishing I had time ... but then today when I was designing a poster to advertise some Christmas events at the church I thought, "I am being creative!" :) so happy! :) I was enjoying it so much when it dawned on me that was why. I like being artsy too :)
Now you will have me thinking about what song is inspiring me these days. Lately I haven't really been listening to anything in particular ... but one of my favourite artists is Jadon Lavik. I love his song, "What if" and his more recent song, "Shine".
    Thanks for the inspiration! :)

  12. Go, Alison! Let's see the poster! :) You should come and play here one day!

I haven't heard of Jadon Lavik -- I'll have to look him up. Have you heard the MercyMe CD I talked about above?

A friend and I were talking about Captivating tonight. We should try another book study -- maybe in the new year -- I miss our "chats":)
