Blair here - - Paula's husband. I recently took a photo of a plaque on the memorial bench at the cemetery where Paula's body is buried. I've been thinking that I'd like to continue blogging about our family's creativity and wondered if Paula's readership felt it appropriate for me to take-over here . . . . or should I start something completely different? <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, looking for feedback about whether Created 2B Creative should continue - - I know Paula often talked about our family's creative ventures (including the kids and I and our collective creativity in several of our posts)</div>

Thoughts? Let me know in the comments below.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BFrDaIr1U-0/UD-5qlCoP_I/AAAAAAAADiU/eBKroM8PaNE/s1600/100_5826.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="284" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BFrDaIr1U-0/UD-5qlCoP_I/AAAAAAAADiU/eBKroM8PaNE/s640/100_5826.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For the last several months, I have been participating in <a href="http://amandajolley.com/joy-journal/" target="_blank">The Joy Journal Project</a>. August has been a hard month for me -- physically, emotionally, spiritually . . . so I wasn't sure I would get this entry done. However, after a good chat with my husband about why I need to create art (with him giving me the reasons, me questioning the value at this point in my life!), I used a free afternoon to do this spread, which was to include the use of a silhouette. I started the spread without any clear direction because the assignment was to reflect on myself as a child and myself now, and I just didn't know where to go with that. As I was creating random layers (starting with maps of places I have lived over the years), I heard a lyric in a song, "the girl with the dream in her eyes." That reminded me of something one of my teachers had inscribed in a book he'd given me at the end of the school year: "To Paula, with the sunshine of hope in her eyes." (I found the book on my shelf just to make sure I remembered correctly!) The recollection actually made me cry in light of how desperately I've been hanging onto Hope this past year, and how people have commented on how my hopeful spirit has blessed them. It was humbling and encouraging and altogether uplifting to know that the <i>Sonshine</i> of Hope can still be seen in my eyes. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So my teacher's words directed the rest of my spread. The profile picture was taken just after my cancer diagnosis last fall, and the picture from which I cropped my eyes was taken the same day. A wee bit of photo editing gave me the variations in the eye images. I think they're kinda cool. The unedited ones in the top left corner remind me of my eyes as a child when I see them without my face. (Funny that ;)</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y0JUMaSuy0s/UD-5vu9uIjI/AAAAAAAADic/jJdwIjbmoks/s1600/100_5827.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="540" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y0JUMaSuy0s/UD-5vu9uIjI/AAAAAAAADic/jJdwIjbmoks/s640/100_5827.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The gold-glittered silhouette, I decided, represents my spirit. I didn't plan it that way -- but that's how it turned out in my mind. (The word in the black box that I squared off from the text papers I used says "resurrection"! ;)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I chose to also include the profile from which the silhouette was made (I just traced around it), but I wanted to use a mix of the plain photograph (back of my head, earring, left shoulder) with a painted picture (below), so I just <a href="http://created2bcreative.blogspot.ca/2012/07/work-in-progress-art-swap.html" target="_blank">painted the rest of the photo</a> with acrylics. (Doing that makes me feel like a skilled artist cuz that's pretty much what I looked like when the photo was taken ;) </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qGis8PYG4jI/UD-50b-fQMI/AAAAAAAADik/Weoy5uHJqFI/s1600/100_5828.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="522" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qGis8PYG4jI/UD-50b-fQMI/AAAAAAAADik/Weoy5uHJqFI/s640/100_5828.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Butterflies make me think of new life and hope, so they seemed like appropriate embellishments to finish the spread (along with some black splatter to tie everything together ;)</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oCw815bPdHU/UD-54Dy-cMI/AAAAAAAADis/yv5WDaLW-1A/s1600/100_5829.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="284" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oCw815bPdHU/UD-54Dy-cMI/AAAAAAAADis/yv5WDaLW-1A/s640/100_5829.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I think this is one of my favourite journal spreads so far. I was slow getting started with it because I wasn't sure what to do, but once I got started, things began to fall together and I really enjoyed the process, though it really did tucker me out! LOL (I like to work start to finish in one sitting as much as possible.) </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now for <a href="http://amandajolley.com/joy-journal/" target="_blank">next month's challenge</a>, which will be posted on Sunday. If you think you'd like to join in, don't hesitate to jump in! (At my rate, I likely won't have it done until it's almost October! But it doesn't matter, does it?!)</span><br />

Earlier in the month, though, I did do a couple of <a href="http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">Word Art Wednesday</a> pieces, but I didn't get around to blogging about them. I think I will simply post them together now, since the challenges are long over:</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I finally finished the last of the six art swap pages -- just in the nick of time!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Once again, the word art for <a href="http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.ca/2012/07/challenge-38-never-give-up.html" target="_blank">this week's challenge</a> is very relevant to my life! I found out that I am no longer a candidate for a stem cell transplant because my PET scan showed a mixed response to the latest chemo: some tumours got smaller, but others grew. When you confront obstacles like that, it's sometimes tempting to throw in the towel and just give up. But that's not a healthy response! We should "never, never, never give up!" Here is my art to convey that sentiment:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jqgmMM_8_vg/UBHQ4ltBJ0I/AAAAAAAADgI/dSBqaxrMhZY/s1600/100_5627.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="452" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jqgmMM_8_vg/UBHQ4ltBJ0I/AAAAAAAADgI/dSBqaxrMhZY/s640/100_5627.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Feel free to download and use the word art in your own work:</span><br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If you'd like to share your inspirational art at <a href="http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.ca/p/blog-page.html" target="_blank">Word Art Wednesday</a>, you could win an adorable antique floral frog from Karen Letchworth from <a href="http://www.karen-mycuprunnethover.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">My Cup Runneth Over</a>. </span><br />

You Swap</a>. This little birdie is made from a couple of swatches of upholstery fabric. The cool stitching around the border is a bit obscured by the layers of pastel I added, but it's more visible in real life. And you can't see it, but behind the letter stickers there's a piece of paper that has the title of a vintage book about nests and birds :)</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The other page I created was inspired by <a href="http://christytomlinson.typepad.com/christytomlinson/" target="_blank">Christy Tomlinson's</a> <a href="http://christytomlinson.typepad.com/christytomlinson/sheartworkshop.html" target="_blank">She Art girls</a>. I used waxed paper, which didn't release the stencils very well, but it wasn't hard to peel the paper off. If I do it again, I'll use parchment paper as Traci suggests. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here is my little collection of hot glue stencils:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qC9ZRKCjmfM/UAcoKRdK5FI/AAAAAAAADdk/04yzQFxoV10/s1600/100_5578.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="532" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qC9ZRKCjmfM/UAcoKRdK5FI/AAAAAAAADdk/04yzQFxoV10/s640/100_5578.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Pretty cool, eh? I think this technique could be used to make some kinda cool embellishments, too -- though it would be nice if I could think of a way to colour them.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-__ZLqHTKFJI/UAcoNEhxx-I/AAAAAAAADds/RGxBZfdKmkk/s1600/100_5579.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="564" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-__ZLqHTKFJI/UAcoNEhxx-I/AAAAAAAADds/RGxBZfdKmkk/s640/100_5579.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I didn't have any paint mists, so I watched a bunch of youtube videos and made my own with some water, a smackerel of ModPodge, metallic paint, and folk art paint. Then I played with my stencils! </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">After I sprayed with the glitter mist, I flipped the stencil over and used it like a stamp:</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The text for this week's <a href="http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.ca/p/blog-page.html" target="_blank">Word Art Wednesday Challenge </a>is from a hymn I remember from my childhood:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tHndPogAPDY/UAYE7z97s7I/AAAAAAAADdY/95x3KC7uHs8/s1600/July18wordart.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="112" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tHndPogAPDY/UAYE7z97s7I/AAAAAAAADdY/95x3KC7uHs8/s640/July18wordart.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It's a good reminder, isn't it? A comforting thought. Feel free to download and use the text in your own art if you'd like.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For my collage, I used two texted papers and some vintage bird graphics from <a href="http://graphicsfairy.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">The Graphics Fairy </a>-- a wonderful resource for vintage pictures, blog backgrounds, and project ideas. I don't know that those little birds are sparrows -- but you get the idea ;) </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If you'd like to join us in the WAW challenge, be sure to link up so you can have a chance to win a little something from <a href="http://www.artfire.com/ext/shop/studio/jacque4u2c" target="_blank">Detailed 4 U Collections</a>. You Art Swap</a>. The theme is Weird Wild Wonderful. I have been itching to get started, and yesterday afternoon I found the body power to begin, as long as I remained sitting. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oh, what fun I had! Outside of a run-in with the sewing machine (I wailed in frustration, unaware that in my efforts, I cut my hand </span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">on the balance wheel </span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">and got a blister -- not such a good thing when my immune system is so compromised. Turns out it wasn't just my chemo-compromised muscles -- DH had to get a wrench to loosen it!), I spent several blissful hours playing and creating. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I decided I want to have a theme for each page with just a word or two to indicate that theme. The first was "Joy" -- epitomized by my happy little masking tape girl. (I kinda wish it was more obvious what she's made of.) The perfectionist in me says she's too juvenile. But I am getting better and better at silencing the inner critic and embracing whatever shows up on my pages!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--LDJOW66fyM/UANBkabHYNI/AAAAAAAADc4/mEv2ZcYbkPY/s1600/100_5573.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="532" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--LDJOW66fyM/UANBkabHYNI/AAAAAAAADc4/mEv2ZcYbkPY/s640/100_5573.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I might replace that little bird with one that stands out more, but other than that I think I'll call it done for now.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZvyRv5ZmLQE/UANBq9q0GwI/AAAAAAAADdA/suzMSiiguIY/s1600/100_5574.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="432" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZvyRv5ZmLQE/UANBq9q0GwI/AAAAAAAADdA/suzMSiiguIY/s640/100_5574.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">On my second page, I decided to try a technique I've seen a few places online -- painting over a magazine face. (<a href="http://daisydollsdollshop.blogspot.ca/2010/08/watercolor-painting-over-magazine-image.html" target="_blank">Here</a> is a cool example. I put a light coat of gesso on the image, so I had no trouble with the paint adhering -- though I was using acrylics and not water colours. ) </span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tLmCT2xi7a4/UANBYZLdZxI/AAAAAAAADco/aRzOSHhvLLM/s1600/100_5568.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="484" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tLmCT2xi7a4/UANBYZLdZxI/AAAAAAAADco/aRzOSHhvLLM/s640/100_5568.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I like my little lovely and will definitely be trying this technique again. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QufFUKBuklo/UANBe_P2rHI/AAAAAAAADcw/ybUPHVXnzbc/s1600/100_5569.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="464" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QufFUKBuklo/UANBe_P2rHI/AAAAAAAADcw/ybUPHVXnzbc/s640/100_5569.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Have you ever participated in an art swap? I encourage you to try it. You're "better" at art than you think! (I wrote about my first swap<a href="http://created2bcreative.blogspot.ca/2011/09/art-journal-pages-my-first-swap.html" target="_blank"> here</a>. Looking back now I can see how I've "grown" as an artist -- even in less than a year! That's cool:)</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As you may know, art journaling is my latest creative passion. So when I saw <a href="http://lauragraceweldon.com/" target="_blank">Laura Grace Weldon's</a> post about <a href="http://lauragraceweldon.com/2012/07/09/life-lists/" target="_blank">Life Lists</a>, I was inspired to make a journal page about life lists. It's simple -- but it was fun and relaxing to create it. Now, if I'm ever stumped about what to journal about, I have a list. In fact, the lists could become a theme for a whole journal! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Are there any other life lists you could add to mine? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QT1gEoep0Sk/T_yZ9qLsu4I/AAAAAAAADbE/NHJtO_LVDPY/s1600/100_5506.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QT1gEoep0Sk/T_yZ9qLsu4I/AAAAAAAADbE/NHJtO_LVDPY/s640/100_5506.JPG" width="602" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It's amazing what one can accomplish from the couch! I've been feeling pretty yucky the last couple of days after my last round of chemo, but sooooooo desirous of being creative. I'm in <a href="http://created2bcreative.blogspot.ca/search/label/art%20journal" target="_blank">art journal </a>mode these days, so this piece has a very journally feel to it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I started by just doing a bit of photo editing, resulting in this picture:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9AvEkPza17E/T_ybb-oMAVI/AAAAAAAADbM/RwTJW6Mx6uQ/s1600/IMG_5257.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="470" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9AvEkPza17E/T_ybb-oMAVI/AAAAAAAADbM/RwTJW6Mx6uQ/s640/IMG_5257.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Then I just started doodling with gel pens on the printed copy! A bit of collage, gesso, and bling -- and<i> voila!</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i><br /></i></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hYiTdx1ZsKA/T_ydhHsxBLI/AAAAAAAADbc/xxvvwtXQiUc/s1600/100_5506.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="466" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hYiTdx1ZsKA/T_ydhHsxBLI/AAAAAAAADbc/xxvvwtXQiUc/s640/100_5506.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i><br /></i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i><br /></i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I like the verse for this week:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OmpuiimNf70/T_ycHYdHvoI/AAAAAAAADbU/J0b1IrA1Rc8/s1600/July+11th.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OmpuiimNf70/T_ycHYdHvoI/AAAAAAAADbU/J0b1IrA1Rc8/s640/July+11th.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">While it is our responsibility to train our children in the ways of the Lord, in this verse,<b> the onus is on God!</b> <span style="font-size: large;"><i><b><u>He</u></b> will teach our children!</i></span> And with that teaching will come <span style="font-size: large;">peace! </span>Isn't that a wonderful promise?! I also appreciated<a href="http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah+54&version=NIV;KJV" target="_blank"> the context </a>of this verse -- promises to the barren woman! As an adoptive mama, it speaks volumes to my heart!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Have you considered participating in this week's <a href="http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.ca/p/blog-page.html" target="_blank">Word Art Wednesday Challenge</a>? If you link up, you might just win a little treasure from <a href="http://whimsystamps.com/" target="_blank">Whimsy Stamps</a>!</span><br />

I have yet to decide if I will embellish them with colour . . .</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NW80o0XSP50/T_zO_BDV9rI/AAAAAAAADcQ/AYKnolPwCyI/s1600/100_5520.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="440" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NW80o0XSP50/T_zO_BDV9rI/AAAAAAAADcQ/AYKnolPwCyI/s640/100_5520.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I am learning to embrace the imperfections of my art! Who cares if their arms are too long and their legs too short -- or their hands and feet all wonky?!?! I'm having fun playing -- and these girls are cute and quirky :)</span><br />

Her first place setting centers on <i>The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe</i>, by C. S. Lewis. This was a trial run to see how the markers, baking, and washing in the dishwasher would work out -- and everything held up quite well!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6r9iVd6y_tI/T_tYCqeyvjI/AAAAAAAADac/chXxzvylcSo/s1600/100_5492.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6r9iVd6y_tI/T_tYCqeyvjI/AAAAAAAADac/chXxzvylcSo/s640/100_5492.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For some reason, The 23rd Psalm has been resonating in my head, so I thought I would incorporate it into my journal as the main text. The background collage paper is also a page about Jesus calming the tempest. I thought that was appropriate, so I highlighted some of the words that popped out at me from that story.</span><br />
<br class="Apple-interchange-newline" /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yhifmMwAnLU/T_tYKHfwvrI/AAAAAAAADak/1W83X6Sy6Sg/s1600/100_5493.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="522" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yhifmMwAnLU/T_tYKHfwvrI/AAAAAAAADak/1W83X6Sy6Sg/s640/100_5493.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I wanted to incorporate a painted lady in my spread, and finally settled on having her resting in the green pastures by a quiet tree (no birds, no rustling leaves). </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KCZUC7P-H7Q/T_tYR5WRMXI/AAAAAAAADas/ua0-5FK5Weo/s1600/100_5494.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="446" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KCZUC7P-H7Q/T_tYR5WRMXI/AAAAAAAADas/ua0-5FK5Weo/s640/100_5494.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I started this spread at home, and then jammed my journal into my <a href="http://created2bcreative.blogspot.ca/2011/08/art-to-go.html" target="_blank">portable art kit</a>. Alas, the pages stuck together and tore the paint off in some places. Instead of lamenting this and calling it all "ruined," I decided to embrace the imperfections as all part of the process. I even took some sand paper and added some distressed sections, as well as smoothed out the torn parts. Whatever, right?</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1H98g5p6bf8/T_tYYTQaxeI/AAAAAAAADa0/GQcrbsisVWM/s1600/100_5495.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="520" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1H98g5p6bf8/T_tYYTQaxeI/AAAAAAAADa0/GQcrbsisVWM/s640/100_5495.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This art journaling thing is quite a learning process. I sometimes start with a certain vision, and get frustrated when I can't realize it the way I would like to do. But I'm realizing that my art journals are really just a place to play and learn and grow. The final product is not what's important. If I like it -- great! If not -- what does it matter?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I thought I wanted to do more with this page, but at this point, I'm not sure what I would do. So, for now it is "done." Perhaps I'll come back to it some day. But for now I'm ready to move on.</span><br />

She created a lovely necklace and earring holder with a simple tree branch in a (weighted) mason jar base. Then she raided our basement boxes of frames, fabric, and mirrors and created a funky arrangement as a backdrop for her branch. (She simply framed some of the fabric.)</span><br />

One died on the scene; the other two were air-lifted to the hospital I am in and have been in critical care here since. My heart has really been dwelling on their families. So, I decided to use the little bits of arty stuff I brought to the hospital to play with to make some cards for the families of the girls that are here in the hospital. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I had some pages from some old books, some paint and stamps, and a couple of extra copies of verses from my <a href="http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">Word Art Wednesday</a> work. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yabt4HmS9GY/T_mUdnGhWVI/AAAAAAAADYk/TCcyfsM1l78/s1600/100_5486.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yabt4HmS9GY/T_mUdnGhWVI/AAAAAAAADYk/TCcyfsM1l78/s640/100_5486.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fJ5o8hKMrKo/T_mUgorRXJI/AAAAAAAADYs/TzZ1v7yqHxg/s1600/100_5487.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fJ5o8hKMrKo/T_mUgorRXJI/AAAAAAAADYs/TzZ1v7yqHxg/s640/100_5487.JPG" width="468" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CAx0pKN7SfE/T_mUiUygS9I/AAAAAAAADY0/owX3jdGjb9g/s1600/100_5488.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="448" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CAx0pKN7SfE/T_mUiUygS9I/AAAAAAAADY0/owX3jdGjb9g/s640/100_5488.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Gg130nYCkqU/T_mUkTLBS0I/AAAAAAAADY8/76GA7ZJiKSc/s1600/100_5489.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Gg130nYCkqU/T_mUkTLBS0I/AAAAAAAADY8/76GA7ZJiKSc/s640/100_5489.JPG" width="452" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And I used some larger pages to make envelopes. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cFThCjoVC1s/T_mUnDUFxPI/AAAAAAAADZE/Q5LTDIESIrU/s1600/100_5491.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cFThCjoVC1s/T_mUnDUFxPI/AAAAAAAADZE/Q5LTDIESIrU/s640/100_5491.JPG" width="546" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Not your typical "Thinking of You" cards -- but I hope they convey the message that these folks are being thought of and prayed for as they suffer such a difficult trial. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I talked to my husband again about the incredible impact <a href="http://created2bcreative.blogspot.ca/2012/06/pretty-pretty-everywhere.html" target="_blank">my pretty blankets</a> and other lovelies in my room have had on my well-being while I'm in the hospital, and he heard my heart for these girls. On his way to visit, he picked up some beautiful blankets to grace the beds of these girls while they recover. DH and DD14 took the blankets and cards up to the ICU and delivered them to the families, who seemed appreciative. </span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Our hope is that they will bring some beauty and warmth to help them heal.</span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Have you discovered any ways to bless people who are in hospital? Besides flowers, what are some ways that we can bring beauty and warmth and love to people who are trying to heal in an institutional setting? </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ykj_GfqIvvw/T_OsDg_ag-I/AAAAAAAADYY/mETmkx9HrHA/s1600/July+4,+2012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ykj_GfqIvvw/T_OsDg_ag-I/AAAAAAAADYY/mETmkx9HrHA/s640/July+4,+2012.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This week's Word Art Wednesday verse is from Deuteronomy 6:5:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--805bT07l50/T_OpNvrzj6I/AAAAAAAADYM/QzDUpy1BqJM/s1600/July+4th.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="218" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--805bT07l50/T_OpNvrzj6I/AAAAAAAADYM/QzDUpy1BqJM/s640/July+4th.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I like to use imagery drawn from the verse, but outside of a heart, I drew a blank. So I decided to use the opportunity to explore a new technique for me. I recently spent some time watching youtube videos about art journaling (cuz that's about all I had the energy to do!), and I came across<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4rJk134rqM&feature=g-hist" target="_blank"> this one,</a> which was a new twist (for me) on an old art activity -- "scratch art". I've done it before with crayons and black paint; this employed coloured oil pastels covered in black oil pastel. I meant to start by priming my library index card with gesso, but I forgot. As a result, I think my colours are less vibrant because they had nothing to grip and got scraped off with the black. I used a little stencil to scratch out a design -- but it's quite subtle. I thought it needed a little more of something, so I went with a heart that I created using a molding medium, red paint, and red glitter. For me, this was another piece that was more about the process than about the product. I really enjoyed the process even though I wasn't as happy with the results as I had hoped. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Would you like to play along and make a piece of art with this verse, another verse, or an inspirational quotation? <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have been having a blast watching art journal videos and playing in my art journals (I have three going now -- my <a href="http://created2bcreative.blogspot.ca/2012/06/joy-journal-project.html" target="_blank">Joy Journal Project</a>, my <a href="http://created2bcreative.blogspot.ca/2012/06/delightful-conspiracy.html" target="_blank">Faith Journal</a>, and just a "play" journal.) </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This spread about how I feel -- like my <i>self</i> again (<i>not</i> "a whole new person") -- having lost 90lbs (last year) was inspired by <a href="http://www.collageartist.com/portfolio/index.htm" target="_blank">Claudine Hellmuth's "poppets"</a> :</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kO58BDIeaX4/T_JNoYLRHZI/AAAAAAAADX4/7CVj7ztfNq8/s1600/100_5484.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kO58BDIeaX4/T_JNoYLRHZI/AAAAAAAADX4/7CVj7ztfNq8/s640/100_5484.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My poppet makes me smile :) She has a little more "shape" than Claudine Hellmuth's ladies do -- but that feature was important to me in this spread given the subject matter ;) The photo of my head was from the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FKRUGdvLDk" target="_blank">photo shoot of my head-shaving party</a> when we all got silly with wigs and feather boas. (<a href="http://www.allaboutyouvideo.ca/" target="_blank">My sister </a>made the awesome <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FKRUGdvLDk" target="_blank">video</a>, and my friend Helen took all the fun pictures.) </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W_qVJll4eek/T_JNu5uespI/AAAAAAAADYA/b8dMi8CuJvE/s1600/100_5485.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W_qVJll4eek/T_JNu5uespI/AAAAAAAADYA/b8dMi8CuJvE/s640/100_5485.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I feel like the spread needs some more layers, but I'm just not sure how to go about adding them. So for now, it's done. Any suggestions?</span><br />

Because she noticed me using swatches of fabric, she thought it would be fun to apply the strips of fabric we have on hand to little canvas boards. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here is her pretty product:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZoTDs40QoPY/T_JKN4IXCTI/AAAAAAAADXg/qSkZe-HhiLI/s1600/100_5477.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZoTDs40QoPY/T_JKN4IXCTI/AAAAAAAADXg/qSkZe-HhiLI/s320/100_5477.JPG" width="263" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And here is her friend's work:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lip8M1BPvrc/T_JKROaRxUI/AAAAAAAADXo/d0azzOTOEmU/s1600/100_5478.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lip8M1BPvrc/T_JKROaRxUI/AAAAAAAADXo/d0azzOTOEmU/s320/100_5478.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Can you think of anything else we might create with the tons of strips of fabric we have? </span><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.mylivesignature.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://signatures.mylivesignature.com/54488/198/C60BD96DFE3B3F34BB2F8B208E4FF2B0.png" style="background: transparent; border: 0 !important;" /></a>Dad24treasureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01644326701250929249noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-444383233465983265.post-22129407975065737622012-06-27T08:00:00.000-04:002012-06-27T08:00:09.292-04:00Word Art Wednesday - June 27, 2012<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YEFuoIujUmM/T-o9BvYNL1I/AAAAAAAADWg/_-ZcKXBhW7c/s1600/100_5474.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YEFuoIujUmM/T-o9BvYNL1I/AAAAAAAADWg/_-ZcKXBhW7c/s640/100_5474.JPG" width="442" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm not one to make art focused on myself -- but the verse for this week is just so applicable to my life that I decided to make myself associate it with <i>me </i>in this week's<a href="http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.ca/p/blog-page.html" target="_blank"> Word Art Wednesday challenge</a>:</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DRB6x8f_6Ho/T-o9MYheJLI/AAAAAAAADWo/7YuTHKOhIZE/s1600/June+27+wordart.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="302" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DRB6x8f_6Ho/T-o9MYheJLI/AAAAAAAADWo/7YuTHKOhIZE/s640/June+27+wordart.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This cancer journey is not fun. Sometimes it's very discouraging. It's easier to have a happy heart about it all when I'm feeling well -- but lately I've been feeling pretty lousy. When I feel lousy, hope is less bright. But this verse reminds me that God has GOOD plans for my life, and the future holds the fulfillment of those plans!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm sure that this verse has significance for your life, too! <a href="http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.ca/p/blog-page.html" target="_blank">Create a piece of art</a> about it (or any other inspirational verse), and you could win something from <a href="http://www.eclecticanthology.com/" target="_blank">Eclectic Anthology</a>.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My husband came home from work today and exclaimed, "Has the world gotten together and said, 'Send Paula something in the mail!'?"</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I hardly ever receive snail mail. Yesterday, I had a lovely letter from my Aunt Helen and a sweet thank you card from <a href="http://plbrown.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">Phyl</a>. <i>Today</i>, I received this beautiful handmade card from <a href="http://www.krcmasterpiece.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">Karen</a>, one of my fellow<a href="http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank"> Word Art Wednesday </a>Design Team members (the turtle made me laugh out loud!): </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The wonderful <a href="http://wendyscrappings.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">Wendy Swenne</a>, another<a href="http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank"> Word Art Wednesday</a> Design Team member, MADE this awesome journal -- especially for me! An amazing four-page letter (handwritten!) outlined the details of how she'd chosen each element with me in mind!!!! I tell you -- it took a long time for the tears to stop welling up -- I was so moved by her thoughtfulness. As you can see, she also sent me some beautiful stamps and embellishments. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Other wonderful artist friends from the Christian Paper Artists yahoo group sent me bits of their artistic loveliness in the fall, too. I can't tell you how much it means to me that people are thinking of me, and taking the time to make special things for me! I have been feeling generally unwell of late, and it is such a boost to my spirits to receive these wonderful gifts from the heart!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">THANK YOU to all of you that have blessed me with your wonderful creativity!!!!!</span><br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-stRpDvAML4Q/T-kUKB81HEI/AAAAAAAADWI/2ncJBW_mTtI/s1600/100_5462.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="286" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-stRpDvAML4Q/T-kUKB81HEI/AAAAAAAADWI/2ncJBW_mTtI/s640/100_5462.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For years now, I've been collecting books and reading blogs about art journaling -- but I've never actually started an art journal that documents my life in some way. This past year, I've also spent a lot of time thinking about joy, and recognizing the link between joy and gratitude. When I came upon </span><a href="http://amandajolley.com/about/" style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" target="_blank">Amanda Jolley's</a><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span><a href="http://amandajolley.com/joy-journal/" style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" target="_blank">Joy Journal Project</a><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> the other week, I realized it presented the perfect opportunity for me to start art journaling with a purpose. And because it's a once-a-month class, it seems manageable for me. If I get behind -- it will be easy enough to catch up.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The <a href="http://amandajolley.com/jjp1/" target="_blank">first assignment</a> was to journal about someone that brings joy to our lives. Since my husband and I will be celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary next month, and since he still lights up my life -- I chose to journal about him. After gessoing the page, I started by free-writing about how wonderful he is. That all got covered in paint -- but it got the creative juices flowing -- and I know it's under there! Outside of layers of paint, ink, and metallic crayon, I simply used a couple of photos and a bit of scrapbooking paper (the numbers -- which are representative of days and years of joy together) and added some text. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I love the idea of altering books, so I chose this library discard as my Joy Journal base. It's thin enough that it's not intimidating -- but it has enough room for about a year's worth of monthly journal spreads. I plan to alter the cover, of course -- but I'm not sure how I will go about that yet.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Cm6VHGRYVgo/T9yoHRumf6I/AAAAAAAADV8/rM7fBVlumfQ/s1600/100_5404.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="254" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Cm6VHGRYVgo/T9yoHRumf6I/AAAAAAAADV8/rM7fBVlumfQ/s320/100_5404.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm still not quite satisfied because it doesn't look balanced -- but I like it better. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Any more suggestions? Or should I leave it and chock it up to a process piece (as opposed to a satisfying product)? I do like my birdies -- though the one on the right is a bit too Spidermanish in colour ;) (Unfortunately, the photo doesn't show the silver highlights on the birds and leaves. I outlined all the black lines with silver gel pen, which adds a neat effect.)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now it is time to rest.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />

During this hospital stay, two of my sweet friends found ways to bless me in creative ways. One friend brought me a bouquet of flowers -- but because she knows I like to "spread the love," she took the time to decorate a few empty juice bottles so I could <i>share</i> my flowers! </span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OoRwtejWclU/T9upEuJ4XDI/AAAAAAAADVM/5wgmjK7yebA/s1600/100_5398.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OoRwtejWclU/T9upEuJ4XDI/AAAAAAAADVM/5wgmjK7yebA/s640/100_5398.JPG" width="448" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Are these not so sweet? I only have one left now because I've distributed two to ladies on the floor that look like they could use a little prettiness to look at. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And you know, it really helps me to do that. Today I was starting to get warn down -- by the drugs, some side effects, and the sadness that pervades the cancer wing in a hospital. There are sad, sick people all over the place. That takes a toll on a soul's view of the world. So what a blessing it was to change my negative thought pattern and get out and bless someone else. Thank you, Caralyn, for enabling me to do that in such a lovely way!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gwlV6N93bB4/T9upI2AnIyI/AAAAAAAADVU/EHe-zZwJEAg/s1600/100_5399.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="578" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gwlV6N93bB4/T9upI2AnIyI/AAAAAAAADVU/EHe-zZwJEAg/s640/100_5399.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Another friend who has traveled her own cancer journey read in <a href="http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/paulapike" target="_blank">my journal</a> that I was cold. So when she came to visit me, she brought this beautiful blanket that she made from those little dollar store throws you can buy:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sHgYAmiuhgU/T9upM6BS6kI/AAAAAAAADVg/Bc7_U-WHpGA/s1600/100_5400.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sHgYAmiuhgU/T9upM6BS6kI/AAAAAAAADVg/Bc7_U-WHpGA/s640/100_5400.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So beautiful, don't you think?!?!?! And so wonderfully cozy! Many, many people have walked into the room and exclaimed at the beauty that Susan has brought to this little space with that blanket, and the lovely quilt </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">(peeking out from under the blanket) </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">she gave me for these hospital stays . Thank you, Susan, for the blessing of your creativity!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Uqjqq6ZfSqs/T9upQzuiQAI/AAAAAAAADVo/goH_RwotmDI/s1600/100_5401.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Uqjqq6ZfSqs/T9upQzuiQAI/AAAAAAAADVo/goH_RwotmDI/s640/100_5401.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Today I felt like exercising my own creativity. I was flipping through my <a href="http://www.amazon.ca/Drawing-Lab-Mixed-Media-Artists-Exercises/dp/1592536131" target="_blank">Drawing Lab</a> book for inspiration, and didn't I discover that <a href="http://blogdelanine.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">one of the people that inspires me most these days</a> was a guest artist in the book! I've had the book for almost two years -- how could I not have noticed that before?! I immediately recognized her birds, which are the things that capture my interest most about her work. So <a href="http://created2bcreative.blogspot.ca/2012/06/little-birdie.html" target="_blank">once again</a>, I tried my hand at some. I'm happy with the birds that look like they are sitting on tree branches, which are actually the lines from the sewing pattern that is glued to the canvas beneath them (and the canvas is recycled from one of my daughter's paint play days). However, I'm not sure that the collage is finished -- and yet I'm not sure how to complete it. I toyed with putting two more "joy" stamps (top left and bottom middle), but that didn't quite do it for me. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oj5SvXaPw50/T9upT20XwyI/AAAAAAAADVw/jKaBaOLVUDs/s1600/100_5403.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="540" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oj5SvXaPw50/T9upT20XwyI/AAAAAAAADVw/jKaBaOLVUDs/s640/100_5403.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Any thoughts on what this collage still needs?????</span><br />
